Any questions related to admission to American University are handled by the Office of Admissions. For information, visit http://www.american.edu/admissions/.

Office Tour: Our office does not handle group or individual tours. All tours are handled through the Admissions office and require advance reservations.  You are welcome to visit us in Mary Graydon Rooms 201 and 202 if you are a small group of 4 or less to ask questions if staff or students are available. For information on campus tours, visit http://www.american.edu/admissions/toursinfosessions.cfm.

Financial Aid

Scholarships: Unfortunately our office does not maintain any scholarship resources for students. Those who have questions around scholarships and grants should contact the Office of Financial Aid Office. For information, visit http://www.american.edu/financialaid/index.cfm.

The Frederick Douglass Scholarship is selected by Undergraduate Admissions.

  • This scholarship is a merit award that will appear in the aid package. This is not a scholarship for which students can apply.
  • Accepted students seeking clarification on their financial packages should contact the Office of Financial Aid. Returning students must go to AU Central.

The Frederick Douglass Distinguished Scholars are students who are part of a program overseen by Larry Thomas (202-885- 6213, lthomas@american.edu). Learn more by visiting, http://www.american.edu/financialaid/fdsprogram.cfm.

Join us on Facebook to find out about scholarships and internships offered by outside organizations. We do not handle these opportunities directly, but rather share the information to students via Facebook. Visit our page, https://www.facebook.com/groups/443283405683105/.

The Center for Diversity & Inclusion strongly advises families to have a four-year plan and budget accordingly. We gently share that one should not deposit with the expectation that additional funding will be forthcoming once the student is enrolled.
