LGBTQ Prospective Student Information

Making the Right Choice for You

If you haven't already figured it out, going to college is a big decision. As one of the many first-rate academic institutions in this country, we believe American University offers all its students, whether LGBTQ or straight, the opportunity to have many new and exciting experiences in one of the most powerful cities in the world. Being LGBTQ isn't a choice, but what college you go to is, and we hope you'll come and see what American University has to offer.

To get a better sense of LGBTQ Life at AU, we have put together a Guide to LGBTQ Life. This guide is a snapshot of LGBTQ life at AU and has information on the LGBTQ Resources in the Center for Diversity & Inclusion, Housing, Queers and Allies (the student group), GLBT Studies and taking GLBT courses, AU's policies, and information about the the DC Mayor's Office of GLBTA Affairs.

We hope that the information will help you in your decision about whether American University is the right school for you. If you need more information or have questions about the content of the guide, please email us or call us at 202-885-3651.

If you are interested in talking with a student about LGBTQ life at AU, check out our Spectrum Project, which is our LGBTQ peer advising program open to prospective and current. Click here for more information about Spectrum and to get a Spectrum Advisor.
