Where is my apartment, and how are they all numbered?
The Berkshire building is separated into three towers: West, Central, and East. All of our AU-leased apartments are only in the West and Central towers. Apartments with the last two digits being 60 or higher (ex. 4060, 6060, etc.) are located in the West tower. Apartments with the last two digits being 59 or lower (ex. 4059, 6059, etc.) are located in the Central tower. The levels in different towers cannot access each other. If a resident in 7060 (West) would like to visit a friend in 7059 (Central), for example, they would first have to go down to the lobby level, then walk to the elevator for the Central tower.
How do I do laundry?
There are two large laundry rooms at both ends of the A1 floor of the building with washing and drying machines. The use of these machines requires a laundry card, which can be obtained and loaded with money with a separate machine in the laundry room. Please be advised that these laundry card machines are cash only. They are provided and maintained by a third-party company, not by The Berkshire or American University. Contact information for any issues is provided on each machine.
What do I do about furniture problems?
If you experience any problems with your provided furniture such as cracks, wobbles, loose parts, etc., please contact the Berkshire Community Coordinators (202-885-6866), who are full-time AU staff members, for assistance.
How do I access the cable and Wi-Fi in my apartment?
Once you have moved in, you will need to call Comcast Xfinity to set up your cable and Wi-Fi accounts. Please call 855-638-2855. Comcast Xfinity will prompt you for a phone number associated with the account. Let them know that you don't have one associated with the account, but you have an account number. Read them the account number that was listed on your official move-in email. They may ask you to verify the address which is 4201 Massachusetts Ave. NW, Apt. (your apartment number) Washington, DC 20016. If they ask for your name, say "(First Name) (Last Name) calling on behalf of American University." They will walk you through the steps of resetting your Wi-Fi password.
What if I'm having issues with my Wi-Fi or TV service?
Our Wi-Fi and TV services are provided by Comcast. Contact the Berkshire Community Coordinators for basic troubleshooting of common issues. If the issue or persists or is larger in nature, we will help you communicate with Comcast to find a solution.
How do I get other maintenance issues fixed in my apartment?
Any other maintenance issues (aside from furniture and Wi-Fi/TV) can be submitted in person directly to the Berkshire Concierge desk in the main lobby. Specify that you are a resident in an AU-leased apartment, and they'll just have you fill out a simple work order form. These will be resolved by The Berkshire maintenance staff.
What if I get locked out?
If you are locked out of your apartment, you can go to the Berkshire Concierge desk to borrow a key to your apartment. The key will need to be returned to the Berkshire Concierge desk within fifteen (15) minutes. There is a $150.00 charge for keys that are not returned to the desk.
What if I lose my keys?
You must first contact the Berkshire Community Coordinator to order a replacement of your keys. Only the Community Coordinator can order new keys. You may, however, pay The Berkshire leasing office yourself after the keys have been ordered.
Who has access to my apartment? And when?
When you report furniture, Wi-Fi/cable, or maintenance issues, your apartment may be entered by the appropriate staff members to resolve those problems. Routine maintenance may be needed throughout the building as well. You will always be informed of these visits in advance.
