Postdoctoral Fellowship in Psychology

Thank you for your interest in the American University's Center for Well-Being Programs and Psychological Services Postdoctoral Fellowship!

The program offers the fellow the opportunity to engage in a wide range of clinical and professional activities, including individual and group therapy, initial consultation assessments, outreach and consultation, supervision of trainees, and professional development trainings. Through such provision of services, the fellow promotes the academic, social, and emotional wellbeing of students and the AU campus community.

The fellow receives specialty training in the many aspects of higher education mental health and university Well-Being Center work. Additionally, the fellow has the opportunity to further develop and enhance their leadership skills, including in the areas of clinical services system management, training program management, and facilitation of outreach programming requests.

Postdoctoral fellows will receive weekly supervision, provided by licensed psychologists, in individual and group counseling, initial consultation and crisis assessments, and supervision. The training staff operate from theoretically integrative, multiculturally-informed treatment approaches with a shared appreciation for relational work with clients. Supervising staff members are trained in a variety of different treatment approaches including psychodynamic psychotherapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, mindfulness-based approaches, among others.

Candidates interested in the postdoctoral program must have attended an APA-accredited doctoral graduate program in counseling or clinical psychology and completed all requirements for an APA-accredited Doctoral Internship by the start date of the fellowship. The fellow must register as a Psychology Associate in the District of Columbia prior to beginning their fellowship.
