At AU, there are a variety of academic support services to help your student succeed. As a parent, you can empower your student to take ownership of their education by encouraging your student to seek the advising and academic support they need.
Academic Support and Access Center (ASAC)
Located in Mary Gradon Center, Room 243 the Academic Support and Access Center supports the academic development and educational goals of all American University Students. ASAC also provides accommodations for students with disabilities.
Located on the first floor of the Bender Library, the Writing Center offers free, 45 minutes consultations, to work on issues such as organizing ideas and research, locating and sharpening a thesis statement or interpreting a writing assignment.
Orientation for First Year Students
Welcome to AU! Your student's decision to attend AU may be one of the most important decisions he/she ever had to make. The Staff of the Office of the Dean of Students through orientation programs is here to make sure all of AU's students - first year, transfer and graduate students start their academic year off right.
Planning for Graduation
The University confers degrees at the end of each summer, fall and spring term. Commencement ceremonies are held mid May and December, to recognize the summer and fall graduates and spring degree candidates. Additional information about graduation and commencement ceremonies can be found on the university's commencement page.
89% of students study abroad during their time at AU. This allows them to have a life defining experience, and possibly one that influences their studies or professional career for many years to come.
Taking part is fun, but winning rocks, Go Eagles ! As a member of the Patriot League, one of the most selective groups of higher education institutions in the NCAA Division I, we strive to also provide high student athlete graduate rate with consistent athletics achievement.
