Supporting Student Learning
The Office of the Dean of Students supports student learning through programs and services that promote growth and development, communicates the values and standards of the AU community, and advocates for students' interests. It houses a comprehensive Greek Life program, Golden Key and Alpha Lambda Delta honor societies, and Student Learning and Development Team.
The Student Learning and Development Team in the office of the Dean of Students reports to the Assistant Vice President and Dean of Students and includes these units:
- Academic Support Center
Kathy Schwartz, Director X-3360 The Academic Support Center provides support for all AU students to facilitate academic and personal achievement. Instruction is available in time management, note taking, test taking, study skills, and more.
- Counseling Center
Wanda Collins , Director X-3500 The Counseling Center offers individual counseling; discussion and support groups; referrals to university and community resources; and crisis intervention.
- Disability Support Services
Joanne Benica , Director X-3315 The Office of Disability Support Services works with persons having temporary or permanent disabilities so that they may have an equal opportunity to participate in, and enjoy the benefits of, the university's programs, services, or activities.
- Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution Services
Rosie McSweeney, Director X-3328 SCCRS provides the judicial system for the resolution of grievances within the American University community.
- New Student Programs
Tiffany Sanchez, Director X-3371 The staff assists new students in their transition to AU through orientation programs for first-year, transfer, and graduate students. The staff also coordinates family weekend and other programs for AU students.
- Student Health Center
Dan Bruey , Director X-3380 The Student Health Center provides primary medical care, gynecological care, minor emergency treatment, immunizations, allergy injections, and health education to students.
