Eligibility/Confidentiality

If you are a qualified AU student with a documented disability whether undergraduate or graduate, in a degree program or non degree, enrolled in credit or noncredit courses you are eligible for services through DSS.

As defined by the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, a qualified person with a disability means a person who meets the essential eligibility requirements of the academic program or service and is able to perform the essential requirements of the academic program or service, with or without reasonable accommodation. A person with a disability is one who (a) has a physical or mental impairment which substantially limits one or more major life activities, (b) has a record of such an impairment, or (c) is regarded as having such an impairment.

Information and records about any disability you may have and any accommodations made for you are treated as confidential information under applicable federal and state laws, as well as university policies, and are only provided to individuals on a need-to-know basis.
