5 Ways the GLBTA Resource Center Can Benefit Faculty/Staff

(1) The GLBTA Resource Center Library
The GLBTA Resource Center Library is a satellite branch of the AU Library. This allows students, staff, and faculty to access our collection through the ALADIN catalog. We offer a wide variety of resources on sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, and GLBT history/culture that could be reserved for a class or could be used for student papers.  Additionally, if you know of books/dvds that would be good additions to the library please let us know.

(2) Educational Trainings/Workshops
The Resource Center can provide multiple trainings or workshops for a classroom or department including our Rainbow Speaker's Bureau (RSB), Safe Space Training, GLBT 101 workshop, or Trans 101 workshop. Each can be tailored to the needs of the classroom or department.

(3) Educational Events

In addition to our annual programming, we also sponsor and co-sponsor one-time programming each semester. These events range in topic and presentation, but can be a welcome addition to any class that can reinforce class discussions and readings or enhance the mission of a department. Past topics of events include the history of DC's Latino GLBT Community, a discussion and viewing of the movie "For the Bible Tells Me So," a webcast of "The Lives of Transgender People Today," and events during National Coming Out Week, Freedom to Marry Day, and Transgender Awareness Week. If you have an idea for an event that we can help sponsor, please contact us.

(4) Publicizing
If you want to get the word out about a course you are teaching, a program you are sponsoring, or a book you have written, you can publicize in the GLBTA weekly newsletter (the Gay Gab). To post announcements on the Gay Gab, please send us an email by noon on Wednesdays. The newsletter is also a good way to stay up to date with all the events the Resource Center is sponsoring and other events in the local DC area. Sign up for our general GLBTA listserv!!

(5) Expertise on GLBT Issues
If you would like someone to come into your classroom or department to give a discussion about sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, or general GLBT issues/concerns, we can help facilitate a discussion or use our local connections to find someone to facilitate that discussion.
