Breastival
October 3rd on the Quad
A festival to raise awareness about breast cancer and a variety of other health and women's issues.
Bias Incidents & Hate Crimes on Campus: AU's response and a look at history
October 4th, 5:30 – 7pm | MGC 247
Student Conduct will be on hand to answer questions about the Student Conduct Code's response to bias incidents & hate crimes, including intersections with the Freedom of Expression policy. Additionally, information about policy evolution and the history of bias response on campus will be featured.
Latin@s in the GLBT Community
October 5th, 6:30pm in SIS Founder’s Room
Join us for a panel discussion on what it means to be Latino in the GLBTA community. Listen and learn about the history of the Latino GLBTA community and how it has influenced and shaped our world.
Sweet Tea: Black Gay Men of the South
October 8th, The Signature Theatre
Based on his award-winning and critically acclaimed book, E. Patrick Johnson stars in this new one-man exploration into the southern black gay community. Join the GLBTA Resource Center as we go and see this critically acclaimed show. Contact the GLBTA Resource Center for ticket prices.
Coming Out on the Quad

Join Queers and Allies as we celebrate National Coming Out Day by coming out of the closet. Additionally, help us continue the "This is Why we Fight" Campaign by writing down why you fight on a large banner!!
Coming Out Monologues
October 11th, 7-9pm in MGC 203/205
The Coming Out Monologues are a collection of stories that represent the diverse and unique experiences of LGBT people.
Safe Space Sticker Workshop
October 12th, 2-5pm
RSVP Required
Safe Space’s primary mission is to create a safer, more inclusive environment on AU’s campus and encourage networking between faculty, staff, and students. The workshop provides an opportunity to examine assumptions about gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people and explore the impact of heterosexism and homophobia.
SpeakOUT: Relationships
October 19th, 6-8pm in MGC 200
How do LGBT people form relationships, whether plutonic or intimate? During this SpeakOUT, participants will have the chance to ask each other questions and share stories about relationships.
Trans 101
October 20th, 2-5pm in MGC 245
The Trans 101 training will provide faculty, staff, and students with information and tools to work with transgender people including a review of gender/gender identity/gender expression, an overview of current issues facing the trans community, and effective ally behaviors.
GLBTA Resource Center Drop-In
October 21st, 4-6pm in the GLBTA Resource Center (MGC 201)
Alumni & families are invited to meet the center’s staff and learn more about resource available to current students.
CBS Reports: Gay Power, Gay Politics
October 24th, 6-8pm, MGC 203/205
In the wake of the Harvey Milk assassination, CBS Reports aired the program, "Gay Power, Gay Politics." Originally proposed as an examination of the growing political clout of San Francisco's gay community, the film instead presented the homosexual "lifestyle" as an ominous threat to the city. Adjunct Professor Bob Connelly screens part of this 1980 documentary, and explains how its shamefully distorted content forced CBS to make an on-air apology.
Out of the Closet, Off of the Streets: Understanding Queer Homelessness
October 25th, 6:30-8:30pm, MGC 247
In anticipation of the Alternative Spring Break trip to San Francisco, the trip’s leadership team will be bringing together a panel to discuss queer homelessness in DC and across the country.
Safer Sex Kits Packing Party
October 26th in MGC 245 & October 27th in MGC 200 | 5-7pm
Come join the Community Service Coalition in conjunction with the DC Center pack safer sex kits to help prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS and STDs. On Thursday, Brant Miller from the HIV/AIDS Working Group at the DC Center will be on hand to speak and answer questions.

Rocky Horror Picture Show
October 28th, 10pm in the Tavern
Get your fishnet stockings ready and your trashy red lipstick on for the one and only Rocky Horror experience. If you've never seen this cult classic, you're in for a treat! Props will be provided, but feel free to bring your own!
AIDS Walk
October 29th, 9am, Downtown DC
Register with the AU Fights AIDS team and walk with GLBTA Resource Center!!
Drag Show
