Local Groups
Washington is home to many different local GLBT organizations that serve different purposes and communities. Below you will find a partial listing of some of the many local organizations with whom we share the Washington GLBT community. The GLBTA Resource Center collaborates with other local organizations on occasion for many diverse projects and programs. Below is a partial listing of local organizations in alphabetical order. The DC Government's Office of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Affairs has a more complete set of local resources for the GLBT community.
Asian/Pacific Islander Queers United for Action
AQUA stands for the Asian and Pacific Islander Queers United for Action. They are an all-volunteer organization serving the gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning members of the Asian and Pacific Islander (API) community in the metro Washington, DC area. AQUA is an organization for queer APIs, by queer APIs, focusing on queer API issues and interests. The organization strives to promote the positive outlook and welfare of their members through advocacy, education, outreach, and social events.
DCBiWomen
DCBiWomen is a social and support group for bisexual and bi-curious women in the DC metro area including northern VA and MD. Their goal is to create an accepting, encouraging environment for bisexual women regardless of the gender of their partner or what they are looking for, meet other cool bi women, and affirm the existence of the bi-identity. This group provides a space to affirm your identity. The organization hopes to provide an atmosphere for learning and a forum for discussion about of mutual concern. Bi-curious women are welcome.
Black Lesbian Support Group
The Black Lesbian Support Group (BLSG) was established in 1990 to provide a positive medium through which black lesbians may communicate with each other. BLSG offers supportive services and interaction in the Lesbian and Gay community and strives to increase the visibility of black lesbians in that community. BLSG is a non-profit organization funded through the Lesbian Services Program of the Whitman-Walker Clinic in Washington DC.
Gay and Lesbian Activists Alliance (GLAA)
The Gay and Lesbian Activists Alliance of Washington, DC, is a local, all-volunteer, non-partisan, non-profit political organization, founded in 1971 to advance the equal rights of gay men and lesbians in Washington, DC. We are the nation's oldest continuously active gay and lesbian civil rights organization.
Family Pride Coalition
The Family Pride Coalition is committed to assuring the best environment for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender parents and their children through support and advocacy.

Washington DC's group on discussions and event announcements serving the South Asian Queer Community and its friends.
Parents, Families and Friends of Gays and Lesbians DC (PFlag)
Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays promotes the health and well-being of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered persons, their families and friends through support to cope with an adverse society, education to enlighten an ill-informed public, and advocacy to end discrimination and secure equal civil rights. We are parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, sisters, brothers, children, spouses, and friends of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered persons.
Sexual Minority Youth Assistance League (SMYAL)

As a youth service agency serving the metropolitan area of Washington, D.C. including Maryland and Northern Virginia, our mission is to support and enhance the self-esteem of sexual minority youth - any youth (13-21) who is lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (lgbt), or who may be questioning their sexuality - and to increase public awareness and understanding of their issues.
SMYAL is always striving to increase the scope and quality of our services and to provide a safer future for youth who self-identify as lgbt, for youth questioning their sexual orientation or gender-identity, and for the friends and families of these young people. Established in 1984 following a conference on sexual minority youth issues sponsored by a coalition of public and private agencies, SMYAL has become a well-respected, community-based organization providing direct services to youth, training and education to youth service providers, and important information relating to sexuality and gender identity issues to the community at-large.
Transgender Education Association of DC
The Transgender Education Association of DC is a support, social, educational and outreach organization for transgender people and their significant others.
Us Helping Us
Founded in 1985 by African American gay men, Us Helping Us, People Into Living, Inc., is a community-based AIDS services organization dedicated to reducing HIV/AIDS in the African American community by specializing in HIV prevention and holistic support services for gay and bisexual men, a population recognized locally and nationally as under-served. We are the only organization in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area specializing in HIV/AIDS services for black gay and bisexual men.
Whitman Walker Clinic
Whitman-Walker Clinic is a non-profit, volunteer-based, lesbian and gay community health organization serving the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Our volunteers and staff are dedicated to providing or facilitating the delivery of high quality, comprehensive, and accessible health care services. Our services are directed to all gay men and lesbians.

Youth Guardian Services
Youth Guardian Services is a youth-run, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides support services on the Internet to gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, questioning, and straight supportive youth.
Youth Pride Alliance
The Youth Pride Alliance plans the annual Youth Pride Day held in Washington,
DC during the spring.
