The GLBTA Resource Center offers several programs that are used throughout campus by students, staff and faculty. To see all the events the Resource Center is sponsoring, view our calendar.
To learn more about volunteering at the Resource Center, check out our volunteer page.
The Spectrum Project matches prospective freshmen and transfer students with current AU students who are trained to be peer advisors. This is a great way to get a student’s view of campus as well as GLBT life at AU and in Washington D.C. We’ll answer any questions you have or find someone who can better answer your questions.
The Rainbow Speakers Bureau organizes trained students to speak on a panel about GLBT issues in classrooms and dorms. The Speakers Bureau works on four basic principles: providing information; combating homophobia; creating visibility for the GLBTA Resource Center and other GLBT resources; and communicating through dialogue and personal contact. Audiences love the personal contact and honesty of the speakers and the speakers love the opportunity to make a difference on campus.
The Safe Space Sticker Program is a training for students, staff and faculty to educate on GLBT issues as well as making sure that resources are spread around campus. At the end you get a fabulous Safe Space sticker to display wherever you see fit.
GoOUT DC is a GLBTQ graduate student outreach program for all graduate, PhD, law, and medical students attending universities in the greater Washington, DC area. GoOUT DC hosts monthly social programming to encourage friendships between graduate students in the region.
The Faculty Staff Host Program matches new faculty or staff members with current staff members who are willing to introduce to the campus and local community. Sign up for the program by filling out the application and returning it to the Resource Center.
The Annual Awards Ceremony is an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of AU's students, faculty, and staff each April. At this ceremony we also congratulate students who are graduating and present the annual Richard L. Schlegel National Legion of Honor Award.
GLBT History Month celebrates the diversity and achievements of the GLBT community. Throughout the month of October the GLBTA Resource Center coordinates programs and events with other AU offices, centers, and student organizations.
SpeakOUT! is a monthly discussion series that is open to anyone interested in discussing various LGBT issues. Topics change monthly.
Connections provides a space for you to ask the Resource Center and trained peers questions about LGBT issues and concerns, resources, and LGBT life at AU and in DC. The chats are anonymous and allow you to get the information you need about the LGBT community.
GLBT Studies Symposium recognizes and celebrates the work of students, staff, and faculty in the DC area related to gender, sexuality, and the GLBT community.
