GLBT Studies Symposium

Saturday, November 19, 2011 | Noon - 6pm
2nd Floor Mary Graydon Center, American University

The 6th Annual DC Metro Area GLBT Studies Symposium: Scholarship to Activism, a collaborative effort among George Mason University, Howard University, American University, and The George Washington University, aims to create a space for students, staff and faculty to present, reflect and learn about GLBT topics and issues.

Whether you want to learn about domestic partner benefits, sex trafficking of LGBT youth, queer life in the Middle East, or the NCAA's transgender policies, the GLBT Studies Symposium has a session for you! These are just a few of the topics covered during program and poster presentations!

Additionally, we will be awarding the National Center for Transgender Equality with the Richard L. Schlegel National Legion of Honor award for Visionary Leaders for their work advancing the equality of transgender people through advocacy, collaboration and empowerment. Executive Director Mara Keisling will be accepting the award and offering the keynote address for the Symposium, followed by a reception with light hor d'peurves and refreshments.

Registration

The symposium is FREE to all who wish to attend, though we ask you to please fill out the registration form by Sunday, November 13, 2011 so that we may appropriately plan our facility needs. Registration will be available on the day of the Symposium, but we ask that you make every attempt to register by November 13th.

If you have any questions, please contact Jacob Wilson at wilson@american.edu.
