Our Awards Ceremony is our annual opportunity to celebrate what is best about AU's gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and ally communities. It is a chance to review our achievements and give credit to members of the campus community who helped make them possible. Each April we have an event where we:

Award Descriptions:

Academic Award: Presented to two students who have written an outstanding paper, done innovative research, or contributed academically to GLBT issues.

Alumni Award: Presented to two students who have continued to
be committed to the efforts of the GLBTA Resource Center at American University, as well as to gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender issues.

Bridge Builders Award: Presented to two students who have contributed to building campus diversity and intercultural understanding across communities, particularly as it relates to the issues of sexual orientation and gender identity.

Leadership Award: Presented to two students who have demonstrated outstanding leadership ability and have helped to improve the university climate for GLBT people.

Outstanding 1st/2nd Year: Presented to two first and/or second year students
who have exhibited extraordinary effort to educate themselves and the larger campus community about gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender issues.

Staff/Faculty Award: Presented to two faculty or staff members, who have shown great support to the GLBT community, helped to diversify our campus and raised awareness of GLBT issues.
