| Now that you have
scheduled a
Rainbow Speakers Bureau presentation…
How do I advertise the RSB?
• We have provided you with an RSB flyer for your event that you
can copy and post on your floor/floors that the presentation is for.
You do not need any approval from Student Activities because the RSB
program is run through the GLBTA Resource Center which is a university
office and therefore needs no flyer approvals. Please flyer at least
one week before the scheduled presentation to give enough time for the
residents to allow time in their schedule for the presentation.
• We also suggest that you remind the residents orally of the
program usually ½ -1 hour before the program begins.
How should the room be set up for the panel discussion?
• We will have three panelists for each presentation. Therefore,
we suggest a room set up where the panelists can sit next to one another.
Because it is a resident’s hall presentation, the setting and
the program is rather informal. The panelists normally sit amongst the
presenters, but we are also comfortable with sitting in front of the
group as well. During the program we will be conducting an interactive
game and we sometimes need to move some of the furniture around in order
to create space for the game.
Are there any materials that I need to provide?
• No, we will bring any materials for the presentation.
How long will the presentation last?
• Normally our program can go the length of a regular class. However,
if necessary we can adjust for a longer or shorter discussion. Please
let us know prior to the RSB how long you would like the presentation
to last. The major time factor is the amount of discussion and interaction
between the residents and the panelists.
What else can I do to have a successful presentation?
• From our experience, when RAs team together to have a joint
floor program the discussion is livelier because of an increase in attendance.
• Often times RAs will also bring food and drinks like pizza,
which also will increase the attendance of the program. Eating during
the program is not a problem.
• Get excited about the program yourself, the more you interact
during the discussion will encourage the residents to do the same.
