Director of New Student Programs Tiffany Sanchez facilitates the new students’ transitions from life at home to life at the university, from high school classes to college courses. “I think the biggest concern new students have is fitting in, finding their niche. They are figuring out whether they are comfortable with who they are, or whether they would like to be different in some way. AU has many resources to help students make this transition and to connect with other people.”

“One of the great things about AU is the visibility of the GLBT population. There are many faculty and staff who are out—students can see that AU is a place where you can be yourself...a place where they can see examples of successful people who are also out of the closet.”

“AU is a supportive environment for GLBT students. And not just in the confines of the GLBTA Resource center, but also in Housing and Dining Programs, New Student Programs, the Counseling Center, the Health Center...the support can be felt throughout the university."
