About Us

The Residence Hall Association (RHA) of American University acts as the community government for, and within, each residence hall. The RHA is lead by the General Assembly. The RHA General Assembly is typically composed of three representatives from each of AU’s 7 residence halls and the Tenley Campus. These representatives attended weekly meetings and represent AU at regional and national conferences, put on programs, provide funding, and conduct student advocacy efforts on behalf of AU’s on-campus population. Representatives have acted as the student voice in the residence halls since the early 1990s.

The RHA also has an Executive Board composed of five (5) students. Together, these students work on formulating the RHA's campus wide programs and guide the RHA in its efforts to represent students. Additionally, the board keeps in contact with similar organizations across the nation as a member of the National Association of College and University Residence Halls (NACURH). NACURH is the largest student-run organization in the world and is broken into 8 different regions. AU falls into the Central Atlantic Affiliate of College and University Residence Halls (CAACURH).
