Dining, Catering & Retail Operations
American University is proudly partnered with Bon Appetit Food Management Company to provide the highest quality food, catering, and customer service to all our summer conference guests. Bon Appetit strives to create food that is alive with flavor and nutrition, prepared from scratch using authentic ingredients. They do this in a socially responsible manner for the well being of our guests, communities and the environment.
American University has one dining hall on the Main Campus (the Terrace Dining Room, or TDR, in the Mary Graydon Student Center) and one on the Tenley Campus (Tenley Café in Constitution Hall). TDR and Tenley Café are an all-you-care-to-eat facility where you pay one flat rate for each meal instead of à la carte rates.
Both TDR and Tenley Café offer a selection of hot and cold entries. At TDR, there is a salad bar available at lunch and dinner daily. Bon AppetÍt can work with specific needs and dietary concerns when given proper notice. AU has consistently been named one of the most vegetarian friendly campuses in the country.
Bon Appetit can also provide catered meals, breaks and receptions. While catering services are available from Bon Appetit, groups using meeting space at American University are permitted to contract separate catering outside of the university. Outside vendors and caterers are permitted on AU grounds, but we think you will find Bon Appetit’s catering department to be better than any other option available.
BOXED MEALS
Planning a trip to the National Mall or other sights and sounds of Washington, DC? Let us prepare boxed breakfasts or lunches for you at the same cost as eating in one of the dining halls! All boxed lunches can be picked up at the loading dock to the Terrace Dining Room (TDR) near the Mary Graydon Center Tunnel entrance on South Campus. Boxed meals should be ordered with your Campus Conference Manager at the same time you submit your final meal requests (two weeks prior to the start date of your event).
EagleBucks
If you would like to give your conference guests, access to meals as part of their program but flexibility with where and when to dine – EagleBucks are an excellent option! EagleBucks can be used at Bon Appetit locations on campus, as well as retail options on and off-campus. Have lunch at the Terrace Dining Room and then have dinner at Chipotle in Tenleytown.
