AU students are welcome to stay on campus over the summer!
Whether you are planning to take classes, participate in an internship, or just hang out in DC, we invite you to call AU home during the summer months. AU summer students enjoy a number of the same amenities available during the academic year- internet & cable service, access to Jacobs Fitness center, and the option to purchase a meal plan or EagleBucks.
Accommodations & Services
Where You'll Be Staying
All AU summer students will be housed on South Campus, in the newly renovated Letts Hall. All amenities AU students enjoy during the academic year remain in place during the summer months, including internet connectivity and cable service, all at no additional charge. The Anderson Hall front desk on South Campus will be staffed on a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week basis for security and informational purposes. Students will use their AUID for access to your summer residence hall. A full-time Resident Director will be available to resolve special problems and offer assistance.
Room Types
Most AU summer students will stay in double occupancy rooms on South Campus during their stay. Single requests will be handled on a first-come, first-served basis (based on the date the application is received at the Housing and Dining Programs office). Single requests that we cannot honor are automatically defaulted to your second choice of accommodations.
We make every effort to accommodate all roommate requests, but cannot guarantee requested assignments. Roommate pairs are strongly encouraged to submit their applications as early as possible and at the same time to ensure pairing.
Mail Service
Mail Services continues during the summer months for both AU students and visiting interns. Detailed information on summer mail services will be available to all on campus residents at your building desk in May.
Recreation and Athletic Facilities
All summer students enjoy regular academic year access to most of American University's many athletic and recreation facilities. A student ID is required for admission to the Jacobs Fitness Center and the Sports Center. Some facilities are used for sports camps during the summer months, but usually only during the day.
