2014 Fall Early Arrival

Fall 2014 Residence Hall Opening Dates

For all new students, the residence halls will open at 9:00am on Saturday, August 16, 2014.

For returning students, the residence halls will open at 9:00am on Wednesday, August 20, 2014. (Please note: Hughes hall is under renovation. Early arrival requests for Hughes hall will likely be denied.)

Requesting Approval for Early Arrival*

Residents who wish to move into their residence hall prior to the dates listed above must submit this Request for Early Arrival form no later than Friday, July 25, 2014. There will be an Early Arrival charge of $50.00 per person for each day prior to the fall opening dates.

All applications are subject to approval. Each application will be reviewed and students will be contacted directly regarding application status.

*Students arriving early are not guaranteed to move directly into their fall housing assignment. Students may be assigned to a temporary space prior to moving into their fall assignment, depending upon room assignment and date of arrival. Please take this into consideration when applying for early arrival.

Special Programs

Students listed in the categories below are pre-approved for early arrival and do not need to complete an Early Arrival request form. Students in these programs will be contacted directly regarding approval and dates of arrival by July 25, 2014. Please contact your Supervisor or Coordinator for more details, as these departments will be supplying a list of Early Arrivals to Housing & Dining Programs for approval. Each of these is subject to verification:

  • AU Summer student moving into Academic Year Housing     
  • Housing & Dining Programs Staff (RAs, DCs, DRs, SRs, RMCs, PAs, RHA, etc)  
  • American University Athletes   
  • International Students arriving for Orientation or Language Testing 
  • In-Hall Mediators     
  • Honors 101 Mentors    
  • STEP Students and Mentors  
  • Dual Undergraduate Degree Program Participants   
  • Public Safety Assistants      
  • Move-In Volunteers    
  • SPA Leadership Participants

Students Living in AU Summer Housing

The Housing and Dining Programs staff will contact all students living in summer housing to make arrangements for the transition from their summer assignment to their academic year room. Students must be available to move to their academic year assignment on Saturday, August 9, 2014. You must pay for your stay (summer housing) through Saturday, August 9 in order to remain on campus. Summer students will not be subject to the additional nightly charge noted above. Storage will not be available for students who are unable to move Saturday, August 9. All American University students living in AU Summer Housing but moving off-campus for the Fall 2014 semester must check-out by 12:00pm on Saturday, August 9, 2014.
