Getting to AU, Around DC, and Parking Information
If you are bringing your own car, you can park at no extra charge (for summer only) in the Nebraska Avenue lot adjacent to the main campus. Simply ask for a parking pass at the front desk of your residence hall when you check in. Click here for AU campus maps.
You can use AU's free shuttle bus service to go between the main campus and the Tenleytown/AU Metro stop (approximately 3/4 of a mile from AU's main campus) as well as between the main campus and AU's Washington College of Law. Shuttles run every 15-20 minutes between 7:00am-12:30am, Sunday-Thursday, and 8:00am-3:15am, Friday and Saturday. Click here for AU shuttle information.
Metrorailis one of the nation's best subway systems. Metro runs weekdays from 5:30am-midnight, and weekends 8:00am-2am, sometimes later on selected lines. The Tenleytown-American University Metro stop is just three-quarters of a mile from AU's main campus (see shuttle information above). Metro provides service throughout the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia, including Union Station (Amtrak and MARC trains) and Reagan National Airport (via Yellow and Blue Lines). Rates start at $1.35 per ride and increase with distance traveled and the time of day.
You can reach American University by airport shuttle, taxi, or Metro from all three major airports in the Washington, DC, and Baltimore metropolitan areas: Ronald Reagan National Airport, Dulles International Airport, and Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI). You can also travel to Washington, DC, by train to Union Station and then take the Metro to the Tenleytown/AU stop.

Additionally, Amtrak provides train service to numerous locations along the Eastern Seaboard, and many points West. Tickets can be purchased in advance and departure/arrival schedules are available by calling (800) 872-7245.
MARC, the Maryland Rail Commuter train, departs from Union Station and offers weekly commuter service to Baltimore, Brunswick, Kensington, Harper's Ferry and Martinsburg, West Virginia. For information on scheduling and fares, please call (800) 325-7245.
