What to Donate

The following items will be collected for American University’s 4th Annual Project Move-Out:

Non-perishable Unopened Food Items:
  • Canned Proteins (tuna, salmon, chicken, beans)
  • Canned Fruits in Own Juices or Light Syrup (pineapples, peaches, and pears)
  • 100% Fruit Juices (all sizes including juice boxes)
  • Grains (pasta, whole wheat pasta, rice, brown rice, macaroni and cheese, couscous)
  • Condiments (tomato based sauces, light soy sauce, ketchup, mustard, light salad dressings)
  • Low Sodium/ No Salt Added Canned Vegetables (mixed, green beans, corn)
  • Soups (beef stew, chili, chicken noodle, turkey rice)
  • Multi-grain Cereal (cheerios, cornflakes, grapenuts, raisin bran, oatmeal)
  • Coffee, tea, powdered milk

Electronics (broken or usable):
April 22, 8AM-12PM on the Quad, AU will host a Personal E-Waste Drive. All data will be wiped according to Department of Defense standards. Appliances such as microwaves or mini fridges will not be accepted during this drive. Where to Donate

Donations will be accepted between May 2-May 7 on all floors in the residence halls. Additionally, Cassell and Nebraska halls will accept donations between May 2–May 12.

AU on-campus residents, and other members of the AU community who are escorted by an appropriate resident, may make donations at these locations.

  • For Clothes, Shoes & Textile Donations: A container will be placed near the elevator lobbies of each residence hall floor. Items MUST be bagged. 
  • For Food, Toiletries & Kitchen Items: Boxes will be provided on each kitchen/lounge spaces of the residence halls. 
  • For Books: Collection boxes will be located on the 1st floor of your residence hall lobby.
