Intern Accommodations & Services

American University is situated in an ideal location in the nation's capital. Located in one of northwest Washington, DC's most beautiful residential areas, AU is just minutes by bus, cab, Metro (subway), or car from the city's most famous sites. The American University free shuttle service connects the university to Washington's Metro Red Line at the Tenleytown-AU station, which is located just three-quarters of a mile from our campus.

Summer 2017 intern housing is available from May 1, 2017- August 12, 2017. The online application will be open to new applications from February to June 30, 2017. Interns who are interested in applying for summer housing should click on the "Apply Now" button located on the menu above.

East Campus Suites
  • Two twin sized beds per suite with private bathroom. 
  • Linens, pillow, towel, and blanket are provided.
  • Shared kitchen, TV lounges, and laundry rooms on each floor.
  • Wi-Fi & cable ready (must bring your own TV).
  • All rooms are air conditioned. 
  • Refrigerator is not provided, but can be rented via MyFridgeRental.

Nebraska Apartments
  • Private rooms with sized bed in shared apartment.
  • Linens, pillow, towel, and blanket are provided. 
  • Shared full kitchen and bathroom in each apartment. 
  • Laundry rooms are available on each floor. 
  • Wi-Fi & cable ready (must bring your own TV).
  • All rooms/apartments are air conditioned.

Roommate Policy

We make every effort to accommodate all roommate requests, but cannot guarantee requested assignments. Roommate pairs are strongly encouraged to submit their applications as early as possible and at the same time to ensure pairing.

Check-in and Check-out Procedures

Check-in is available at 3:00pm on your date of arrival. Check-out is at 12:00pm on your date of departure. Your room and mail key will be available for pickup from the front desk in Nebraska Hall or Federal Hall.

Mail services continue during the summer months for  both AU students and visiting interns. Detailed information on summer mail services will be available to all on campus residents at your residence hall front desk in May.
