Global Nomad Orientation

Fall 2016: Saturday, August 20 - Tuesday, August 23

Freshmen Orientation

What is a Global Nomad?

A "Global Nomad" (sometimes called "Third Culture Kid" or "TCK") is a person who has spent a significant part of his or her upbringing outside their parents' culture. At American University, we believe that your immigration status is just one part of your global identity. Many international students are, in fact, US citizens or permanent residents but have spent their formative years outside the US.

Global Nomads enrich our community by bringing their global perspective to AU. They are often uniquely able to understand the process of cultural transition and identity.

Global Nomad & International Student Orientation

Global Nomads are highly encouraged to attend the International Student Orientation. We will cover important cross-cultural and academic information that pertain to students transitioning into a new academic culture.  This program will give you the chance to learn important information about your studies, as well as to meet your new international classmates.

Families are encouraged to attend orientation with their new students.
