Intercultural Programming Assistant
Name: Aarathi Menon
School and major: School of International Service, majoring in International Relations
Program responsibilities: I have been the program coordinator for Road Trip USA since September 2012. As a coordinator, I am able to plan various trips and events geared for international students to experience American culture in new unique ways. In addition to planning trips to learn about traditional American culture, we also give the students the opportunity to experience the diverse cultures celebrated in the United States.
Why you joined ISSS: I participated in a similar club in high school that dealt with exchange students and introducing them to American culture. To be able to translate those experience those experiences to a department like ISSS was too great of an opportunity to pass. It's a wonderful program that helps international students in all ways possible, and I enjoy the opportunity to meet and speak with students about their cultures. The work environment in this office is great. Everyone's always very friendly and there's always coffee!
What you like about Road Trip USA: It lets me plan amazing trips and events for international students which give them the chance to experience American culture that they may not have been or heard of before. Also, I get to spend a lot of time talking to international students and hearing about their experiences here and at their respective countries.
Your favorite place on campus: Megabytes! They have great mango smoothies.
What you do in your spare time: Sleeping is my main hobby after finishing up my schoolwork. On weekends, though, I often catch up on my British TV dramas!
