Registering for Classes
Undergraduate Students
Before arriving at AU, first-year undergraduate students should become familiar with the Freshman Guide to Academic Programs and Registration. Follow the instructions inside to register for classes by mailing the worksheet included with the brochure to your academic advisor. Please be sure that your advisor receives your registration worksheet before you arrive at orientation. During the academic segment of orientation, you will receive a confirmation of your fall schedule of classes and, if necessary, modify your schedule based on the results of your math and foreign language placement exams.
After you arrive on campus, we encourage you to visit the Academic Support Center to learn about the many resources available to help you in your academic adjustment to the US university system. Please also see the resources listed below.
Graduate Students
Admission to courses is on a first-come, first-serve basis, so register as early as possible to get into your desired classes. You must contact your academic advisor in your department before registering for your classes using the my.american.edu portal.
