Registering for Classes

First Year Undergraduate Students

During the month of May, first-year undergraduate students will need to complete the on-line Freshman Guide to Academic Programs and Registration. Instructions will be sent by email to you at your new american.edu email account, from your academic advisor.

After you submit your Freshman Guide, your academic advisor will review and approve your choices, then you will go on-line and register for your classes. It is important to complete these steps as early in the summer as possible, before classes become full.

Additional information about first time student registration is available at the Registrar's Office website or from your academic advisor.

During the academic segment of orientation, you will receive a confirmation of your fall schedule of classes and, if necessary, modify your schedule based on the results of your math and foreign language placement exams.

After you arrive on campus, we encourage you to visit the Academic Support Center to learn about the many resources available to help you in your academic adjustment to the US university system. Please also see the resources listed below.
