Visa and Immigration Information:  Transferring Immigration Status

Transfer-In: TO American University 

If you plan to transfer your immigration status to American University from another U.S. institution, you must contact the International Student Advisor at your current institution and determine a transfer release date.

·         F-1 students who intend to transfer-in must submit the F-1 Transfer-in Form to American University's International Student and Scholar Services office.

·         J-1 students who intend to transfer-in must submit the J-1 Transfer-In Form to American University's International Student and Scholar Services office.

Transfer-Out: FROM American University

If you decide to transfer your immigration status from American University to another U.S. institution, you must contact one of American University’s International Student Advisors at ISSS and the advisor at the new institution for details on the transfer process. American University will need the following form signed by you. Your new university will likely require that you also submit their transfer-in form to your new International Student Advisor. 

·         F-1 students who intend to transfer-out must complete the F-1 Transfer-Out Form.

·         J-1 students who intend to transfer-out must complete the J-1 Transfer-Out Form.

 
Note: Transferring students ( to/ from AU) are not required to make SEVIS fee payment.
