Multicultural Affairs

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Multicultural Affairs located and what are your hours of operation?
We are located at the heart of main campus on the second floor of the Mary Graydon Center in suite 204. The office is open daily (Monday-Friday) from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. We sometimes operate with additional late night hours to support student programs. Please stop by; we are on the same floor as our neighbors who provide resources, such as Academic Support Center, Community Service Center, Counseling Center, Disability Support Services, GLBTA Resource Center and Student Activities.

Who works here and how could they help me?
Multicultural Affairs is comprised of both professional and student staff. Our professional staff were all active student leaders in their respective undergraduate institutions: American University, Duke University and The George Washington University. Each staff member is passionate about student success in and out of the classroom. Multicultural Affairs believes in academic excellence and supports related student endeavors.

The student staff is comprised of wonderful AU students who are always willing to share their AU experience as well as point you in the best direction for assistance from a full-time campus staff member. Students are active participants to help the office, whether brainstorming new ideas, making room reservations, or organizing a book club or study group, students are key to the success of the office’s outreach.

Can I use the computers, resume tips and scholarship books?
Multicultural Affairs is always working to provide a comfortable space for students to study and get acquainted in. There are three computers available to students as long as they remember to check in at the front desk. In our efforts to "go green", Multicultural Affairs has paper which has writing on one-side. Students who need to print an assignment have access to “clean” paper after consulting with a member of the student staff.

The office is building its scholarship and career-related resources. Students are welcome to browse the books and binders and are encouraged to consult with a staff member to discuss their future endeavors. Make an appointment to meet with our staff today!

Does Multicultural Affairs have programs?

Annual endeavors include American Indian Heritage Month, Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, Black History Month, Distinguished Alumni awards, Latino Heritage Month, campus-wide Martin Luther King Jr. commemorative activities, Resident Advisor training, and campus-wide Orientation events.
