MLK Grant Winners to Serve Homeless, D.C. Youth
Recipients of the annual Martin Luther King Jr. grants were announced Jan. 19 as part of the university’s week-long civil rights celebration.
Funded by the student-run Eagle Endowment, which provides seed money for local initiatives, this year’s grants include:
- A $1,000 award for the Inter-University Chaplaincy Social Justice Service, which pairs student mentors from AU and other local universities with Washington youth to help them navigate the college application process.
- A $350 award to MetroHomeNet.Org, a social networking site for organizations that serve Washington’s homeless population.
- A $650 award to Campus Kitchens Project, which repackages food that would be thrown out and distributes it to the homeless.
