Arts and Media for Social Change

Immersive Experience

DC's museums are rich in art exhibits and media outlets. AU students will have the opportunity to examine behind-the-scenes social media outlets with regards to the first Amendment at the Newseum and then engage in an exclusive tour of the National Theater! Additionally, discussions will be foucsed around promoting cultural diversity through the arts and how media can have a positive impact on communities. **This program has reached capacity and is closed**

Service Experience

Expressing injustices through art activism is innovative to the DC community and are displayed throughout the District. Capitol Hill Arts Workshop, City Arts and Emergence Community Arts Collective are inspiring organizations you will be able to serve at. You can look forward to restoring a historic mural, collaborating with local creative activists and have an opportunity to participate in a spoken word performance. Media by Metro (Registration has closed for this program)

Students will learn more about the fields of communication (journalism; film & media arts; and public relations) from AU alumni and media professionals in the DC area during site visits to communication and media organizations. Past site visits have included organizations such as the Washington Post, Discovery Communication, National Geographic Channel, NBC 4 TV, and Porter Novelli. Students will learn how to use information gained at these site visits to support their career planning process during a closing workshop with the School of Communication Career Advisors.


Press Corps

This unique Explore DC program uses your creativity and skills to capture the EDC experience. Select students will engage in media learning by using photography, videography, and editing. In the course of two days you will present a complete video at the EDC closing ceremony. Join us to help document the first year of this new and exciting program. Please apply here.
