New Student Programs

Director's Welcome

Welcome to American University! I am sure that you have many questions now that you've decided to join our community. One of the most important things that you can do to make sure that you get the most out of your AU experience is to attend New Student Orientation.

New Student Orientation is the perfect place for you to meet other new students, learn how to get around campus, finalize your class schedule, get an AU student ID card, and learn about AU and Washington, DC, from current AU students.

During the orientation programs in June and July, you'll have an opportunity to stay in the residence halls, eat in the dining hall, meet staff members from your school or college, and take care of important tasks that will make your first few weeks as a first-year student at AU much easier.

And, parents, we haven't forgotten about you. We've planned a very thorough parent orientation program that runs parallel to our student orientation program. Registered participants will hear from AU's Dean of Students and staff members from Housing and Dining Programs, the Student Health Center, and the Career Center, and Athletics. Orientation Leaders and Coordinators will also be prepared to either answer your questions or find the people who can.

We are looking forward to meeting you. In the meantime, please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns about being a new student at AU. We're here to help!
