Parent and Family Orientation and Family Weekend

Welcome to the AU Community! The office of New Student Programs is responsible for ensuring that all new students make a smooth transition to the university. We know that your student's successful transition is important to you and that you'll have your own questions and concerns.

During each summer orientation program, we host a parallel orientation program for parents (see below for a sample schedule). You'll have the opportunity to meet with university administrators, learn about the many services offered here at American, and learn about AU's academic programs.

By the time orientation is over, you'll feel much more comfortable leaving your student to begin his or her academic career at American University. As one parent put it, "Orientation was first class! Thanks for making us feel welcome. AU is definitely the place to be."

Please note that Eagle Summit programs for students starting classes in August 2011 will take place in June, July, and August. You will receive more information about Eagle Summit in the mail starting in March and can register for the program beginning in April.

For an idea of what you'll be doing during Parent and Family Orientation, see the 2010 Parent and Family Schedule. Please note that this is a sample program schedule only. You will receive your actual schedule when you arrive at check-in.

We also work with AU Special Events to host All-American Weekend each fall semester. All-American Weekend is a great way to get to know AU better while visiting your student on campus. Welcome Receptions, neighborhood tours, the annual AU Family Barbeque, Classes Without Quizzes, and the President's Address are just some of the events that provide you with an opportunity to get to know AU staff, other parents, and other students. Click here for more information about All-American Weekend.
