Student Profile: Akhmet Ishmukhamedov

World View

Akhmet is an international student from Kazakhstan who didn’t want to limit his study abroad experience to just the United States, but Santiago, Chile and London, United Kingdom as well.

An avid learner, Akhmet is no stranger to asking plenty of questions and planning ahead. Before deciding on where to study abroad, Akhmet was sure to consult with his advisor to ensure that he could travel and still graduate in four years.

With all of his world traveling (Akhmet has also been to Russia, Spain, Turkey, Germany and South Korea), Akhmet considers himself to be a global citizen. He still has his foundation, his core values, placed in Kazakhstan but enjoys learning and experiencing different cultures, especially through education.

Was it worth the planning and difficult classes in foreign countries? Absolutely.

“My experience was successful, I believe, due to my openness to experiencing new cultures,” said Akhmet. “I tried any possible opportunities to talk with (British) people to try to understand their way of thinking and behavior.”

When asked what, when looking at these experiences, his dream job is, Akhmet replied, "As for now, I’d say something with public service for the community that I live in and, hopefully some day, the world. Really anything in public service, the state or local government, and helping through educating people would make me happy.”
