Why consider a job at AU over the summer?
- Make a difference by helping out important University programs.

Positions that are Available
You may apply for more than one summer OCL job, however due to the nature of each position you will not be able to hold multiple positions. Please click on an individual position for more information about that opportunity and review the "General Application Steps" section below.
Conference Manager (CM)
CMs are experienced student staff members that work directly with Housing & Dining Programs visiting conference groups to ensure that all of their needs are met. These student staff members are hired through a selective process and work full-time from May through August. These staff members possess a vast amount of knowledge about American University and the Washington DC area. Six Conference Managers will be hired for the summer of 2013.
Freshmen Service Experience Coordinator
FSE Coordinators work as a team in the Center for Community Engagement and Service throughout the summer to design, plan and implement the Freshman Service Experience, a 3-day program for approximately 600 incoming students and 90 upper-classmen leaders.
Orientation Leader (OL)
Orientation Leaders work in New Student Programs and are American University students who welcome, support, and assist more than 1,500 new first-year and transfer students transition into the AU community through Eagle Summit orientation sessions. OLs are upbeat, caring, and proud to be AU Eagles. OLs are hired through a selective process and work full0time from June through early July and also during Welcome Week in August. 15 OLs will be hired for summer 2013.
Summer Management Assistant (SMA)
SMAs work with the conference team in Housing & Dining Programs to support all areas of the operation. They make sure all of the operational aspects for each group and individual are prepared on arrival and throughout the summer. Seven Summer Management Assistants will be hired for the summer of 2013.
General Application Steps
- Attend an info session to learn more about the position(s) you are interested in. Please note, an info session is required for OL candidates. See "Key Dates" section for Info Session dates and times.
- Submitting an application for each position you are interested in, following the application's instructions carefully as each position's application is different.
- Follow directions provided by the hiring office for group and/or individual interviews.
- Expect notification about your candidacy for each position by February 20.
- Accept or decline any offer(s) by February 25.
