All AU faculty and staff are provided with an e-mail account with an address in the format of firstname.lastname@example.org. Be sure to monitor what is sent to you at this address, as many important university announcements will be sent here.
We strongly urge you to take full advantage of the rich features of Lotus Notes, as it is the platform for many administrative applications at the university and provides the maximum benefits.
You can access your e-mail in a variety of ways, including:
- Installing the Lotus Notes client on your computer.
- Accessing your e-mail through the Web at mail.american.edu.
- Accessing your e-mail through a mobile device using Lotus Notes Traveler.
- Using your choice of supported IMAP clients (like Mac Mail, Thunderbird, and Microsoft Outlook 2010). Please review this summary of the limitations and potential loss of functionality due to use of an IMAP client.
Students who have opted out of using the AU-sponsored Gmail service also use the faculty and staff e-mail service.
