Office 365 Pilot & Early Adopter Responsibilities


Thank you for volunteering to be a pilot user or early adopter of Office 365, as someone that embraces new technologies. In this capacity, you will play a critical role in helping us prepare for the transition of email, calendar, and contact data for all AU faculty and staff from Lotus Notes to Office 365, over the summer.

By participating as a pilot user or early adopter, you agree to fulfill the following responsibilities:

Communication & Escalation

  • Report any issues encountered immediately to the OIT Help Desk via
  • During the pilot, provide feedback and share your recommendations for improvements via
  • Test the Office 2016 installation and upgrade utilities.

Testing of Core Functionality

  • Don't be afraid to try new things and break stuff.
  • Experiment with core applications, such as: Outlook, Skype for Business (Lync for Mac users), OneNote, OneDrive, and IMAP (as appropriate).
    • Skype for Business (Lync on Mac), OneNote, and OneDrive can all be tested immediately.
    • Lync for Mac might need to be installed from
  • Test the experience from both a Windows and Mac workstation, if possible.
  • Test mail and calendar coexistence, such as busy/free calendar search.
  • Test calendar delegations to other staff or student workers.
  • Follow the instructions for exporting and importing mail rules.
  • Develop use cases for additional testing - unique departmental accounts, special calendars, mail merges, application integrations, etc.

Champion Office 365

  • Spread the word and serve as a champion for the initiative.

Final Assessment

  • Complete a survey regarding your migration experience to help us to continually improve.
