AU Dashboard Recognized as One of Top Enterprise Business Intelligence Designs

OIT Space Utilization Dashboard

The Office of Information Technology has tapped into AU's Space Inventory Management System (SIMS) and Colleague course scheduling and enrollment data to create an industry leading Space Utilization Application. This application allows users to:

  • Gain insight into the "productivity" of classrooms and class laboratories across the entire campus, both current (with up to one day latency, if necessary) and historical (for previous terms). The term "productivity" generally refers to how efficiently the rooms are scheduled, and whether or not the size of the room is appropriate for the number of enrolled students.

  • Assist the Office of the University Registrar in planning and optimizing the number of course sections. The goal is to utilize the tools to help inform the decisions to eliminate excessive under-filled sections or add new ones for the high-demand courses.

The front end of the application is the state-of-art Space Utilization Dashboard built on the MicroStrategy platform. This dashboard was recognized with an Honorable Mention for Enterprise-Class Business Intelligence Applications by MicroStrategy at the annual MicroStrategy World 2013 user conference in January. This honor indicates that this dashboard was one of the best dashboard designs worldwide, ranking in the top 10% of the 87 entries that were submitted by companies around the world.
