Students from American University will perform selections from the new musical Streets of America, by actor-writer-lyricist Matt Riopelle and Tony Award-winning composer Michael Rupert, on the first night of this year's "Journey from Page to Stage" Festival. The program also features excerpts from new musicals being developed for D.C. premieres by Signature Theatre, African Continuum Theatre, and MetroStage.

This classic musical follows the compelling life of Argentina's infamous First Lady, Eva Peron. Told through a dynamic score that fuses Latin, rock and jazz rhythyms, EVITA creates an arresting theatrical portrait as complex as the woman herself.

Lawrence Redmond, a native son of the areas educational institutions who majored in theater, has established himself as an EVERYMAN in the theater. His career spans over 25 years of increasing activity in the theater. He has played at all the well-known theater companies in the Greater Washington Area. His local productions number 63 and counting. Larry is a five time Helen Hayes Award Nominee and has received the award twice. He is also a recipient of multiple Individual Artist grants from the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities.

Linda Dusman is a composer and sound artist whose works have been performed extensively across the United States, and in Europe, Asia, and South America. She is the recipient of grants and awards from the Swiss Women's Music Forum, the American Composers Forum, the International Electroacoustic Music Festival of Sao Paulo, Brazil, and the Ucross Foundation, among others. Dr. Dusman currently is a Professor at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) where she chairs the music department.
