The Department of Perfoming Arts presents a unique lecture series featuring the insights of distinctive alumni from theatre, music, dance, and arts management, who will discuss their career paths as well as the challenges faced in their fields. Each guest will also give a demonstration and leave time for Q&A. This week, we welcome Vladimir Angelov, MA-Dance 1996, an accomplished dancer and choreographer whose works have been commissioned by the Kirov and San Fransisco Ballets. Washington's City Dance Company has been performed his pieces and he is currently working on a commission from the Indiana Ballet. The Harold and Sylvia Greenberg Theatre opens with a flare! Enjoy the premiere of Celebration!, an original composition for chorus and orchestra by AU professor Dr. Haig Mardirosian. Hum along with a montage of 25 years of musicals at the Department of Performing Arts. Enjoy an original scene by AU professor Caleen Sinnette Jennings and riveting choreography by guest artist Peter DiMuro. Featuring more than 200 performers, the celebration also includes a moving tribute to past students of the Department of Performing Arts as we inaugurate the Alumni Hall of Fame. Each guest will also give a demonstration and leave time for Q&A. This week, we welcome Marte de la Torre, MA-arts management 1983, the first director of special projects of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) in Paris, where she worked on projects including the renovation of the Egyptian Museum in Cairo and the creation of the Nubia Museum in Aswan. Later, she joined the Getty Conservation Institute, where she developed a program that integrated a managerial component in archaeological conservation. 7 MAY 2003 Alan Mandel, a legendary American pianist, will give the first solo concert at the newly built Harold and Sylvia Greenberg Theatre, performing four of Chopin's Ballads, Beethoven's last piano sonata (Op.111), and a major composition by Alan Mandel. The concert is co-sponsored by the Department of Performing Arts and the American University Honors Program.
