MEMORANDUM
January 29, 2009
| TO: | Campus Community |
| FROM: | Neil Kerwin, President |
| SUBJECT: | 2009 University Awards for Faculty, Staff, Students, and Alumni |
I am pleased to announce the launch of the annual University Awards process. The dedication and hard work of our students, alumni, faculty, and staff make AU a better place to live, work, and study, and I encourage you to recognize those persons who have made exceptional contributions by nominating them for a university award. Detailed information on the awards, selection criteria, and deadlines is on the University Awards Web site.
We review the awards process annually and make adjustments to reflect the times. The faculty, staff, and alumni awards processes remain unchanged, and cash prizes which accompany the awards remain at the following levels:
- $250 to $1,000 for student awards
- $750 for staff awards (not to exceed $5,000 for a group award) and
- $2,000 to $5,000 for faculty awards
The changes that we have made affect the presentation of student awards, which were previously awarded in a ceremony that also recognized graduating University Honors Program seniors.
Our new commencement format allows each school to hold its own ceremony; so for the first time, all student award winners will be recognized at their commencement ceremony. Recipients will sit on stage and be recognized before classmates, faculty, and family members. In addition, award recipients and guests will be invited to a special reception at the start of Commencement Weekend.
Through perseverance and a commitment to excellence, we continue to make important strides to every sector of campus. I invite you to help us to acknowledge those persons whose commitment to AU is without parallel.
