|SUBJECT:||Selection of Kenia Rodriguez for 2006 President's Award
I am pleased to announce that I have selected Kenia Rodriguez, a graduating senior in the Kogod School of Business, to receive the 2006 President’s Award. The President’s Award is the highest award presented to undergraduate students and is presented to the senior whose accomplishments over the course of his or her undergraduate years are truly exceptional and reflect the highest ideals of American University. Ms. Rodriguez will receive $1000 and an engraved medal, to be presented at the Kogod School of Business and School of Public Affairs commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 14.
Ms. Rodriguez is a magna cum laude graduate who will receive dual degrees in computer information systems and business administration, with a specialization in international finance and minor in justice. She was recently accepted to AU’s Washington College of Law.
Ms. Rodriguez’s campus activities include serving as co-director of the Latino and American Student Organization (LASO), and treasurer of the Phi Alpha Delta International Pre-Law Fraternity. Under her leadership, LASO has diversified its membership and organized or participated in events such as Hispanic Heritage Month, Black History Month, and the Founder’s Day celebration. A commuter student throughout her four years at AU, Ms. Rodriguez represented off-campus students in the General Assembly and was one of two students chosen to serve on the Kogod dean’s selection committee. Her activities also include mentoring area high school students, assisting needy individuals in filing income tax returns, helping with admissions events, and serving on the board of the Marcelo Cardenas Fund for Bolivia, which provides aid for schools across Bolivia.
I hope you will join me in acknowledging Ms. Rodriguez’s record of achievement, efforts to build community, and her example of service that helped promote AU’s ideals of academic excellence, integrity, selflessness, leadership, and service.
