President's Message | Reports & Announcements

May 11, 2011

Dear American University 2011 Graduate,

I encourage you to view this short video message sharing recent campus news and accomplishments. The video capsulizes your last semester at AU and includes commencement weekend highlights. In late breaking news, I am pleased to share that at Friday’s Toast to Graduates, the senior class presented a $13,000 check which will support a new wind turbine. For more on Commencement, including video highlights from each ceremony, a photo gallery, and more on the Senior Class gift, be sure to check out the links accompanying the video.

You’ll also be interested to know that your tweets made AU’s commencement a nationwide trending topic on Twitter on May 7-8 and a worldwide trending topic for 15 minutes during the School of Communication honorary degree recipient Bob Schieffer’s speech. In addition, nearly 3,000 people in 56 countries viewed the commencement live stream. This is a great indicator of AU’s reach and innovative use of social media.

I wish you all the best as you enter this next exciting phase of your life, and as an AU alumnus myself, I hope you continue to stay connected and engaged with this great university. I’m proud to welcome you into our larger community of AU alumni. Go forth and do us proud.

As always, I welcome your feedback. Please let me know your thoughts at

Best wishes,

Neil Kerwin, ’71
