MEMORANDUM
November 1, 2005
| TO: | Campus Community |
| FROM: | Cornelius Kerwin, Acting President |
| SUBJECT: | Announcement Regarding Vice President Al Checcio |
I announce with considerable regret, both professional and personal, that Al Checcio, vice president of university relations, will resign effective December 31, 2005 to become vice president of development and university relations at Fordham University.
After joining the AU community almost six years ago, Al was a major participant in the development of our current “AnewAU” campaign, and has been central in the efforts that have brought us to the mid-point in progress toward the $200 million goal. Every major part of our development, university relations and athletics programs have improved markedly during his tenure.
Al has worked effectively with me, the vice presidents, and deans to fashion an effective, de-centralized approach to development that will serve the university well in the months and years ahead. Most recently, he oversaw every aspect of the highly successful opening of our Katzen Arts Center, as well as the best attended alumni event in recent memory.
We will miss Al’s intelligence, experience, skill, and dedication to American University. I know that you join me in wishing Al the best in his new position. Fordham University is a fine institution that will be considerably stronger when Al assumes his new responsibilities early next year.
