We are pleased to announce that the inauguration of the 14th president of American University will be held on February 8, 2008, and a number of events are being planned in conjunction with this symbolic and celebratory occasion.
The inauguration ceremony—the official investiture of president—will take place at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 8, 2008, in Bender Arena. The AU community is invited to attend, and a campus-wide reception will follow.
That same evening, the President’s Inaugural Celebration and Founder’s Day Ball will be held at the Italian embassy in an evening-long event that combines the inaugural celebration with the annual Founder’s Day formal hosted by the AU Student Government. The event will run from 7:30 p.m. to past midnight. We are working with student leaders to plan a festive evening for all attendees. Ticket information will be available at a later date.
In addition to these events, other activities are being planned for inauguration week. From February 4–7, events will focus on the fundamental strengths of American University—teaching-learning; scholarship, professional contributions, and creative work; service; and alumni. Special programming will be built around these concepts to showcase the best of American University.
Complete details of the inauguration week activities are being planned, and updates will be forthcoming. For now, please mark these dates on your calendars, as we work to utilize this festive occasion as a time to showcase the finest aspects of American University.
