As you know, there have been reports in the news media and elsewhere that federal agencies have expressed interest in the ongoing board inquiry involving the travel and personal expenses of the university president.
I want to notify you that the U.S. Department of Justice has informed counsel for the AU Board of Trustees and the university that it has initiated an investigation.
This investigation requires the university to identify, preserve, and provide all requested records related to the subject of the board inquiry. Members of the campus community with responsibility for specific records or who may be in a position to provide necessary information will be contacted separately.
American University will cooperate fully in this investigation.
