I’m Neil Kerwin, president of American University. I’d like to welcome you to campus for what promises to be a memorable fall semester.
We’ve had an interesting summer. In July, President Obama chose our new School of International Service building to deliver an important speech on immigration reform. It was a fitting inaugural event for this splendid new home for our School of International Service.
I encourage you to make the most of your time here at American University. Get to know your professors—they are a remarkable and accessible group of men and women, who are among the preeminent experts in their fields. Our staff consists of exceptional professionals—get to know them, too. Consider our many student organizations or clubs...and join one or more that fits your interests. At some point in your work here, be sure to intern or volunteer...and do study abroad. Explore Washington D.C.—it’s our home and a world-class city that’s a true laboratory for learning.
I look forward to meeting you: at our Celebrate AU event on the quad...at an Eagles game at some point during the year...or at a performance in Katzen or the Greenberg Theatre.
Feel free to email me (firstname.lastname@example.org) or attend the open forum that the chair of our Board of Trustees—Gary Abramson—and I host in November.
The entire university community joins me in wishing you the best as you create the next chapter in your American University story.
