SUBJECT:	Security and AU Emergency Preparedness

The university is aware of the news that a credible but unconfirmed terrorist threat has been identified by Homeland Security, related to the 9/11 anniversary and directed toward New York and Washington. Members of AU’s Emergency Response Team have been working closely with the Metropolitan Police Department and Homeland Security and are confident that our normal emergency preparedness measures are appropriate at this time.

The safety of our students, faculty, and staff is our highest priority. If the situation warrants any additional precautions or instructions, we will notify all members of the AU community through the usual means, including AU Alerts (also known as RAVE’s AU Campus Connect), email, www.american.edu, Facebook, Twitter and AU’s information line, 202-885-1100.

I encourage you to familiarize yourself with the AU Emergency Preparedness Web site, www.american.edu/emergency, which details our plans and approaches to preparing for and responding to emergencies. In addition, I hope you go about your normal business and take advantage of the AU events of remembrance that honor the significance of the day.
