- Jorge Ata, was born in La Paz, Bolivia and raised in Puno, Peru. He developed his interest in Cross-cultural Studies, Latin American Studies, and International Studies at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. After graduating from George Mason University, he joined American University in 1996, where he has been teaching Spanish and Latin American Studies.
