Prof. Yamauchi retired from full-time teaching in 2000. Her professional credentials include: Consultant in organizational communication management, cultural diversity, and Asian Pacific American issues for numerous U.S. government agencies, AT&T, Procter & Gamble, Corporation for Public Broadcasting, American Council of Education; member governing board, Society for Intercultural Education, Training, and Research; commissioner, Intercultural and International Communication Commission of the Speech Communication Association; associate Editor, International and Intercultural Communication Annual; International Journal of Intercultural Relations; Journal of Applied Communication Research.
She was director of research project grants for the National Institute of Mental Health and National Institute of Education.
Awards include: Excellence in Education 2000, U.S. Pan Asian Chamber of Commerce, Excellence in Teaching, Multicultural Affairs Office American University. Author, "Making a Difference Through Valuing Differences"; Asian Americans and the Glass Ceiling"; Prejudice, Promotion, and Power in the Newsroom: a Survey of Asian American Broadcasters", others.
