Michel Robe

  • Professor Robe teaches derivatives and international finance at KSB. His teaching has received multiple accolades. He was voted Kogod Graduate Professor of the Year 2012 and nominated as the 2013 Economist Business Professor of the Year 2013.

    His papers on derivatives and commodity markets, insider trading, investor protection, optimal security design, and the costs of volatility have appeared in the Journal of Financial Economics, the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, the International Economic Review, the Energy Journal, numerous other academic journals and in books. His current research deals with the organization and evolution of commodity and financial futures markets, high-frequency trading (HFT), derivatives-market microstructure and cross-market shock transmission.

    Prof. Robe received his Ph.D. in Financial Economics from Carnegie Mellon University. He previously taught international finance at Carnegie Mellon, the University of Miami and McGill University. Since 2006, he has been associated with the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) as a Visiting then Consulting Senior Economist. He has also consulted for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC, 2008-2010), the U.S. Department of Energy (2013-2014) and the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA, 2011-2012 and 2014-2015).

Additional Information: Michel Robe's articles about the workings of securities and derivatives markets, commodities, insider trading, security design, international financial flows, cross-border financial risk sharing, financial contracting and regulation, and corporate payout policy have appeared in leading finance and economics journals, including the Journal of Financial Economics, the International Economic Review, and the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, as well as in many specialized journals and in books. He has served as a consultant to the U.S. Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) and advises the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) in the role of consulting senior economist. Dr. Robe was nominated for Professor of the Year awards at both American and McGill universities. His international finance courses also won him the Best I.M. Teacher Award at Carnegie Mellon University.
