Coordinator, LGBTQ Programming
Center for Diversity and Inclusion
Matt started at American University in April 2009 as the Program Coordinator of the GLBTA Resource Center and later transitioned into their current role as Coordinator of LGBTQ Programming in the Center for Diversity & Inclusion.
Before American University, Matt received both their B.A. (Community Studies) and M.A. (Higher Education Administration and Student Services) from George Mason University where they also gained experience in academic advising, teaching, and started their path towards LGBTQ student services.
In their current position, Matt oversees general LGBTQ outreach/advocacy initiatives, the LGBTQ Speakers Board, the Rainbow Speakers Bureau program, CDI's LGBTQ Peer Advising program, the LGBT Studies Symposium, and the Trans* Resource Guide. They also work with the other center staff on center-wide programming/marketing initiatives, and diversity/social justice workshops (a particular passion of theirs!). Additionally, they meet with students and other campus partners to discuss LGBTQ issues and concerns and advocate on behalf of this population. Outside of Matt's work in the Center, they’ve worked on the Office of Campus Life's staff development committee, the Social Justice Living Learning Community team, and also teaches in the Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program.
Outside of American University, Matt loves getting involved in anything that allows them to use their passion around LGBTQ equality & social justice. They’ve worked with the DC PFLAG chapter, facilitated in-service trainings to government offices, and worked towards creating a LGBTQ Alumni Chapter at George Mason University. If they are not doing this work, you’ll probably find them catching up on the newest crime/mystery/thriller drama!
Come by or contact the Center for Diversity and Inclusion to meet Matt!
