Coordinator, LGBTQ Programming
Center for Diversity and Inclusion
I started at American University in April 2009 as the Program Coordinator of the GLBTA Resource Center and later transitioned into my current role as Coordinator of LGBTQ Programming in the Center for Diversity & Inclusion. In this position, I oversee general LGBTQ programming/advocacy initiatives, the Rainbow Speakers Bureau program, LGBTQ Peer Advising programs, the LGBT Studies Symposium, and the Trans* Resource Guide. I also work with the other center staff on center-wide programming/marketing initiatives, and diversity/social justice workshops. Additionally, I meet with students and other campus partners to discuss LGBTQ issues and concerns and advocate on behalf of this population. Outside of my work in the Center, I’ve worked on our student affairs division’s staff development committee, the Social Justice Living Learning Community team, and I teach in the Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program.
Before American University, I received both my B.A. (Community Studies) and M.A. (Higher Education Administration and Student Services) from George Mason University where I also gained experience in academic advising, teaching, and started my path towards LGBTQ student services.
Outside of American University, I love getting involved in anything that allows me to use my passion around LGBTQ equality & social justice. I’ve worked with our local PFLAG chapter, facilitated in-service trainings to government offices, and worked towards creating a LGBTQ Alumni Chapter at George Mason University. If I am not doing this work, you’ll probably find me catching up on the newest crime/mystery/thriller drama!
